Recreational Activities

Camp Blanton offers facilities for many outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming, canoeing, archery and hiking.

Two mountain streams merge at Camp Blanton to form a two-acre pond perfect for fishing or canoeing. In the nearby boathouse you will find several canoes and lifejackets ready for your group to use. There is no swimming allowed in the lake. Canoeing is allowed only to those who can swim. Life jackets are required.

Our swimming pool is open during summer months and offers depths from four feet to nine feet, along with a two-foot high diving board. Next to the pool is our new shower house which also offers restrooms and a place to change clothes. Adults must supervise all activity in, on, or around the pool.

Our shooting range is open year-round for both archery and riflery. Several targets are kept in place, and a shelter-house is located at the front of the range. Any weapons for use at the firing range must be pre-approved and will be used at the firing range only. No other weapons allowed.

Over four miles of hiking trails are available in the adjacent Blanton Forest. The main trail consists of two loops leading to points of interest like Knobby Rock, The Maze and Sand Cave. The trailhead is located on the facilities just a few feet from the swimming pool. For more information about hiking trails, click here.

Summer Day Camp

Each year, Camp Blanton hosts several four-day camps for children agest 8 to 18. During the week, partipants are instructed in swimming, archery and canoeing, as well as partipate in hiking, crafts and field competitions. Each day begins at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.

Participation in Summer Camp costs $30 and scholarships are available for those who need them. A bus is provided by Harlan High School FRYSC to pick up participants in the Harlan area. Meals are also provided each day.

The 2007 Summer Day Camp schedule and sign-up information will be posted when it is available.
